Stormy Weather
Rain’s tympani creates a cadence
of drummers transforming my roof
into a concert hall. My windows
are awash with rivers of tears. A cat
repeatedly taps on a pane, even though
not of my household. Geckos and lizards
disappear into bushes. The wind swells
into an arresting aria reminding all
that we are fragile and easily swept away.
A pair of crows struggle toward shelter,
flung back across an open field again and again.
All are at mercy of wind and rain. There is
beauty in the power of the storm, and terror too.
When calm ensues, the whole neighborhood sighs.
