“Nina Simone with Black Hair,” by Jerrice J. Baptiste

Wild is The Wind
My ears bask in the deep
darkness of her voice.
Smoothness of a river rock.
Nina, goddess of the wind
visits me in daydream.
She blows on my journal
finds this page to satisfy
her loneliness. Wild is the Wind
as I drift. My eyes opened during
her plea, give me more than one caress.
Sounds of mandolin linger.
